John Warrender, Chief Executive
With over thirty years’ experience in the energy business working across IOCs, NOCs and independents both in the UK and internationally, John brings a demonstrable track record in the strategic development and management of upstream and midstream operating businesses, built up in senior governance roles.
His specialities lie in the following areas: managing director/ country manager; oil and gas operations management, subsurface and exploration management; strategic planning and portfolio investment evaluation; corporate business planning and performance management; business transformation and transition management; government and stakeholder relations; board governance.
In 2017 he established his own energy advisory consultancy, providing services in strategy development, portfolio assessment, due diligence, business plan evaluation, corporate performance improvement, interim and transitional management, and board support.
Previously John served as Managing Director of the Sinopec Group’s UK subsidiary, Addax Petroleum UK Limited, following Sinopec’s acquisition of one of the largest UK operators, Talisman Energy UK, and the creation of Repsol Sinopec Resources. Along with overall responsibility for the leadership and day-to-day management of Sinopec’s UK business John served on the Executive Committee and Board of Repsol Sinopec and was accountable for overall governance and performance management of the company. He was a driver of critical transformation activities and developed specific, relevant, expertise in successfully turning around the fortunes of a complex operating business.
Most of John’s prior career was with the integrated oil company, ConocoPhillips, and the UK independent, Enterprise Oil. Working between the UK and the US he held various upstream technical and leadership positions before moving into operated asset management and, latterly, large integrated business unit- and country management. He has served at executive director level on a number of UK Boards.
John is a British citizen. He stared in the oil and gas industry in 1985 having graduated with a BSc (Honours) in geology at the University of Glasgow followed by a period of academic research with the State Mining Company of Finland.
