August 2015 Lunch & Learn

Decom North Sea Lunch & Learn events give members and non-members from across the UK and Europe the opportunity to hear about developments, whilst networking with key players from the decommissioning sector.

Companies will present their offshore decommissioning capabilities both to raise awareness of their expertise with the operators and major contractors and also to allow the rest of the supply chain to seek opportunities for collaboration.

Our August Lunch and Learn event will include presentations from Oceaneering International Services Ltd, OGIC, Universal Pegasus International and Xodus.

Universal Pegasus International

Decommissioning subsea developments - holistic engineering and planning

In the early stages of planning for decommissioning a subsea field; a siloed approach to facilities and wells can set programmes off on a suboptimal and costly path. UniversalPegasus International, in collaboration with their well engineering associates, offers an independent and integrated engineering and cost estimating service for; subsea, wells and facilities decommissioning.

From contracting strategy through marine SIMOPs; cohesive thinking and preparation is vital for cost reduction and management of interface issues. This presentation will examine some of the synergies and cost savings achievable by considering pipeline / structure decommissioning and well P&A as an integrated operation.

Xodus Group

Xodus Group and Xodus Subsea has a wealth of knowledge built through providing decades of design and operational support, including subsea, integrity and maintenance. We have delivered more than 60 decommissioning projects. Multi-discipline engineers and technical specialists help clients to manage the regulatory minefield and take the stress out of concept selection, strategy planning and permitting; ultimately reducing risk as an asset transitions from operational to retirement phases. Whilst offshore infrastructure is complex, a logical approach to decommissioning which makes the most of operational data, lessons learned and latest technologies can reduce costs and mitigate against uncertainty. Our approach is ‘decommission one, decommission many’ which means that there is a sliding cost efficiency scale to follow-up assets, where attention is drawn to identifying differences and opportunities.

Our presentation will focus on the geotechnical aspects of North Sea decommissioning, offering a discussion of current decommissioning practice of various types of subsea structures, moorings and pipelines/cables. A case study of the complete recovery of a piled subsea structure will also be presented.

Decommissioning in the current economic climate requires a mindset which is open to change. At Xodus we deliver this by challenging the ‘norm’ and constantly using our clever thinking to drive innovation.
