Rod Mac Leman Hseq Manager

New Health & Safety Manager for Port of Cromarty Firth

The Port of Cromarty Firth is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Health and Safety Manager, Rod MacLeman.  In this new role, he will be responsible for the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) team as part of the Port’s new Integrated Management System.

Rod, from Avoch, will not only be responsible for the regulation and enforcement of the Port’s health and safety policies, he will be managing the team responsible for the Port’s environmental responsibilities and their quality management systems.  This integration of different standards into a common system makes best use of the skilled people the Port employs in each area and enables them to work together to suggest methods to minimise and manage risks which fully take into account the needs of each discipline.

Married with two sons, Rod has had an exciting and diverse career that has taken him around the world and up the ranks to Master Mariner.  Starting out on local fishing boats, he moved onto larger oil supply boats, then on to rigs, where he began to develop his passion for health and safety.

He joins the Port from his last post as Senior Marine Surveyor with DNV-GL, where he audited vessels to make sure they complied with strict safety standards.

Whilst working for Dolphin Drilling, Rod visited the Port many times and this is how he became aware of the Port’s ‘can do approach’.  He said: “Being a local boy, I was delighted to see this new job advertised by the Port.  Not only does it allow me to continue with my health and safety passion, it allows me to focus on the environment of a place I love and the quality aspects of the organisation.  The Port of Cromarty Firth is a dynamic, modern port and I am looking forward to becoming a part of the team.”

Bob Buskie, Chief Executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth said: “This new job is critical to the future of the Port and brings with it huge responsibilities.  Rod comes with a vast wealth of experience, and we have no doubt his skills and talents will be well used in this new role.  His team are looking forward to working with him and the Port’s staff are delighted to have him join us.”
