As work to dismantle the Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Limited, Buchan Alpha oil production vessel in Dales Voe continues with the goal of making Lerwick a decommissioning centre of excellence, Veolia and its logistics partner Peterson have joined forces to create the Make a Difference Community Grant. Specifically designed to help provide support for local charities, voluntary and community groups, forums, sports teams, societies and schools, the £10k fund will aim to support a variety of projects.
Aimed at not-for-profit local organisations, the scheme will help projects requiring a maximum of £1,000 of funding and will help with the necessary support covering promotion and marketing, education and awareness raising, practical equipment and running costs.
The companies have launched the scheme and are now promoting it to the local communities to encourage applications for funding. Supported by an easy to use on-line application portal funding will be made available to successful applicants from properly constituted organisations at the discretion of Veolia and Peterson.
Commenting on the new Make a Difference Community Grant, Ian Williams Central Region Director - Industrial Customers at Veolia said, “Supporting the communities where we operate is a key part of our commitment and the introduction of this scheme will help us to make a positive difference to local organisations. We look forward to working with the community to turn their ideas into new projects and activities.”
James Johnson, Decommissioning Manager, Peterson added “We are committed to making a positive impact in the local communities in which we operate and have actively supported various community projects for many years. We are delighted to be working with Veolia to create a formal scheme to provide funding for a variety of projects.”
The Repsol Sinopec Buchan Alpha oil production vessel, weighing 12,000 tonnes, arrived safely in Lerwick, Shetland on 12/13 August. Dismantling of the platform is being managed by Veolia and Peterson at the expanded deep-water Dales Voe Base in Lerwick, and is believed to be the first major North Sea floating production vessel facility to be disposed of in Scotland.
