Onshore Disposal & Waste Treatment - Ron Van Der Laan, Peterson, Director
Ron is a director of Peterson, part of Veolia-Peterson steering committee, an official partnership between waste management specialist Veolia and leading international energy logistics provider Peterson for offshore energy decommissioning. I have over than 20 years' experience in the disposal, waste management and logistics industry.
Veolia-Peterson is currently involved in a number of live decommissioning projects giving me invaluable exposure to what is happening in the worldwide offshore decommissioning industry. This also gives him a high level expertise and international experience of best practice to bring to the Decom North Sea board and its members.
In addition to his decommissioning & partnership role, he’s responsible for Peterson operations in Holland, Middle East & UK with a strong focus on business improvement & business development in new regions. Responsible for four Business Units across both the United Kingdom and Netherlands sectors of the Southern North Sea. This enables me to focus on transferrable skills between regions, industries and businesses, which he believes is key for decommissioning.
Veolia-Peterson has a portfolio of four state of the art decommissioning yards around the North Sea: Lerwick Greenhead Base, Lerwick Dales Voe, Lutelandet and Great Yarmouth. To date, they have receipted and disposed around 80,000 tonnes of material coming from offshore installations. Every receipt from a small subsea structure or to a single lifted offshore platform topside is a great learning experience that we wish to share with the industry.
He truly believe that sharing and collaboration is fundamental in this downturn for both supply chain and operators and our partnership is a great example of this. Industry bodies such as Decom North Sea have an important role to play in facilitating this and the opportunity to join the board would allow me to help drive this forward. He wants to ensure that collaboration and sharing become the norm in our industry and help to establish a world leading Centre of Excellence for decommissioning.
