The Bitesize Decom series of events have a strong focus on the latest late-life and decommissioning updates, upcoming plans and opportunities from operators and contractors and key case studies.
Decom North Sea knows it is imperative that those who need to understand the decommissioning market are equipped with the knowledge and tools with which to make the most of an industry whose UK spend alone is forecast at an estimated £17 billion over the next decade (Oil & Gas UK Decommissioning Insight Report 2017). This is a significant commercial opportunity for the supply chain, in particular those companies offering cost-efficient solutions which could help restore competitiveness to the basin.
This Bitesize Decom event included a joint presentation from Chubb and Willis Tower Watson and individual presentations from Expro and Maersk Decom.
Evolving nature of risk in the offshore and decommissioning sectors’
A joint presentation from Chubb Services UK Limited and Willis Towers Watson will broadly cover the evolving nature of risk in offshore sector and decommissioning, touching on;
- Use of drones
- Contractual arrangements and no ‘standard’ LOGIC
- Equipment risks
- How insurance policies have evolved to assist
- What is covered and what is a commercial risk
Alternative Permanent Abandonment Barrier Verification using CaTS™ Wireless Technology
The well plug and abandonment (P&A) market is increasingly using new technology to ensure integrity and improve cost efficiency during abandonment operations. Alternative methods are being applied and developed to improve, replace, remediate and verify barriers used in the construction and abandonment of wells. The presentation will describe how in late 2017, CaTS technology was successfully deployed below a permanently abandoned wellbore, with casings cut and recovered and cement barrier installed. Results from this operation confirmed that the technology will wirelessly transmit pressure and temperature data across a 100m rock-to-rock cement abandonment plug, setting an industry first.
Providing safe and efficient decommissioning solutions to offshore energy operators
Maersk Decom will provide an example of how they have spooled up flexible pipes onto an anchor handling winch, and there by developed a completely new method that significantly reduced the time it takes to recover flexibles and minimise the environmental impact and manual handling.
This session offered the opportunity for attendees to maximise their networking with key players from across the decommissioning sector and Decom North Sea will continue to connect capability with opportunity by organising the popular facilitated introductions for our member companies.
