Innovo has announced the design of a new generation of alignment clamp for a major global pipeline contractor. Following successful tests of the prototype, the innovative new clamp is capable of aligning onshore pipeline terminations for a semi-automatic welding process.
The design challenge was to balance robustness – ensuring safe and rigid termination alignment – while making it sufficiently lightweight for use in a trench and for crane handling which demands the lowest possible weight and size.
Innovo’s design maximises the performance of the clamp under load by making it light enough for easy handling and installation. The design of clamp’s hydraulic plant takes advantage of the simplicity and lightness of its components. The powerpack on the skid has been designed and built to minimise weight for handling and lifting operations, and its components have been configured for ease of maintenance.
Garry Millard, corporate new business director of Innovo, explained: “This new alignment clamp follows our philosophy of helping clients save time and reduce costs by designing innovative equipment. It will significantly improve the safety of tie-in operations inside the trench as well as reducing the overall time taken for pipe alignment.”
